Audience Personas of "A Quiet Island"

Henry is a rambunctious 9-year-old boy with a vivid imagination and sense of adventure. After reading “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” he decided to unofficially rename himself Tom, which is now what all of his friends call him. He attends Clarendon Elementary School in his “for-now” home in Illinois. It is “for-now” because his family usually moves every few years for his father’s job. He was born in Alabama, then moved to New York when he was 3, then to Nevada at 7, and is now located, “for now,” in Illinois. Because he is continuously moving, “Tom” has been able to meet a lot of different people, never really getting too attached to many. This has allowed him to create a sort of people bank in his mind, which he uses to imagine grand stories and adventures. Other than Tom Sawyer, his other idols are the Hardy Boys. He has read all of the books and enjoys a good mystery. Many of his adventures are based off of various mystery cases he hears about from his mother discussing the news with her friends.

Patrick is a 21-year-old college student at the University of Kansas. Originally born in Wisconsin, he now calls Kansas City, Missouri is home. Patrick is a film major who not only enjoys watching movies, but reading books as well. He imagines in his head film shots and directing angles and approaches he could take to create a movie in his head as he reads. He is slightly socially awkward – he used to be a “fat kid” who only had friends because he was able to poke fun at himself and be a “funny guy.” Thanks to wrestling, he’s more in shape and quite a hit with the ladies… when he has the courage to actually flirt with them.

Leila is an 82-year-old ex-CIA agent with an affinity for cats. She was born in New York, but never enjoyed the city life and moved to South Dakota when she was 16. The CIA was rough on her; always gone, she never had a chance to marry or have kids. After she retired, she became lonely, missing the interactions she had on the force stalking people. She began to buy cats and now has 12 of them, all named after someone she’s killed. She doesn’t much leave her house anymore – no point. She did all of her vacationing right after retirement. Of course, she’d already been to many of the places she’d dreamed about visiting as a child thanks to internationally following people.
