True Life: I Have a Mild Obsession With Tea

I know I have British roots, but I'm pretty sure not even that will suffice as a decent explanation for my love of tea. Let me just get this out in the open: My name is Ashley, and I have a mild obsession with tea.

I feel as if I should be an MTV “True Life” story, I love tea so much. I drink it at least 2 or 3 times a day. I have a special cup for my tea. I’ve even begun experimenting with mixing different types and flavors of tea. I was walking through my campus bookstore the other day only to have “The History of Tea” be the first book that caught my eye. On the contrary that book was actually extremely boring, but it’s the observation of my tea obsession that really matters here.

Not to my surprise, I’m not alone in my ways – tons of people love tea. While I was contemplating it, I actually went out and researched a little bit on why exactly this tea phenomenon is striking the world so brilliantly. Here are some of my findings.

1. 1. Variety. Although there are only 4 main types of tea (White, Green, Black and Oolong) there are literally thousands of ways to enjoy your tea.

2. 2. Health benefits. Tea is delicious AND really good for you – a 2in1 miracle drink! It’s got antioxidants and awesome chemicals that help fight certain cancers and maintain regular blood cholesterol levels. It’s also been shown that, specifically Green Tea, can help with weight loss.

3. 3. Versatility. Tea can be consumed at any time of the day, hot or cold and will make you feel better whether you’re sick or not. Not to mention old tea bags can be used in the refrigerator to absorb odors or as fertilizer in a garden.

4. 3. Socially acceptable. Not only does tea help your life health wise, but it can also help out your social life. Much like going to a popular coffee shop, one can just as easily enjoy some quality time at a teashop. Sit around with friends and a cup of tea and just relax! It’s good for you!

In the end I think I personally just love tea for the pure deliciousness and harmony it brings me. That sounds like a lame reason to fixate over something, particularly a beverage, but that’s all I can really muster up for you.

So if you’re ever looking for some musings, I cordially invite you to drop by for a tea party anytime.
